What Water Tap is Closed means

A red water tap symbol on a Whirlpool washer, with no series named, means no water or not enough water is reaching the machine. The tap may be closed, an inlet hose may be kinked, the house pressure may be too low, the mesh filters in the inlet hose may be clogged, or the inlet hose may be frozen. The washer waits for the fill, stops and shows the symbol, so the cycle cannot go forward until the supply is restored.

Can a frozen hose really cause this?

Yes. If the room drops below about 41 degrees Fahrenheit, water in the hose can freeze and block the flow. Warm the room and let the hose thaw before trying again.

How do I clean the mesh filter safely?

Turn off the faucet, unscrew the hose and look for the small screen at the end. Rinse out the debris without pushing the screen out of place, then reattach by hand.

What if the water pressure is low?

Test other faucets in the house. If they also run weakly, the issue is in the plumbing. If only the washer struggles, the hose, screens or inlet valve need a look.
