What Spin Light Flashing means
A blinking Spin light on an older Whirlpool top-load HE washer, the Cabrio and WTW family, points to an out-of-balance load. The weight in the basket is uneven, so the washer holds back from the fast spin that would shake the cabinet. You may notice clothes still soaked, a cycle that has stopped just before or during spinning and a washer that seems stuck. Redistributing the load by hand and restarting is usually all it takes to get the spin back.
Common causes of Spin Light Flashing
- Load pushed to one side of the wash plate
- Small number of heavy, wet items together
- Washer feet not firmly on the floor
- Spin sensing circuit, if balanced loads still stall
1. Stop the cycle and wait until the basket is fully still and the lid releases. 2. Fan the clothes out loosely so they sit evenly around the wash plate. 3. Close the lid and restart, or choose Drain & Spin. 4. Unplug the washer for five minutes if the light stays on after you rebalance.
- A balanced basket that still blinks the Spin light means we should test the spin circuit and the suspension.
- The Cabrio is a design that plenty of households still depend on. We repair it, and we will say when a repair is not worth it.
- We try a test spin before quoting a part.

What does a blinking Spin light mean?
The washer cannot start or continue the fast spin because the load is uneven. The light blinks to show you that the spin stage needs your help rather than a repair.
Will it spin if I just restart?
Only if the load shifts into balance. Restarting without moving the clothes usually brings the same blinking again. Spread them out first, then start the spin.
Does a single towel or rug cause it?
Often. One heavy item tends to ball up on one side. Wash it with a few similar items so the weight is shared around the basket.
