What F24 means
F24, with a red symbol, can mean one of two things on older Whirlpool washers where the series is not stated. First, too much laundry for a program with a small maximum load. Second, too much inlet water. Because the second can mean water entering when it should not, treat F24 with care and do not leave the washer running unattended. The washer stops and waits for you.
Common causes of F24
- A load larger than the cycle's maximum
- Water entering the washer without a cycle running
- An inlet valve or control reading that needs testing
1. If the load is too big, take some out, select Rinse & Spin and start it to finish the interrupted cycle. 2. For too much water, close the water faucet. 3. Hold the Power button for at least 3 seconds to drain, and wait until End appears. 4. Open the faucet again. If water flows in with no cycle running, close it, unplug the washer and call us.
- If water enters with no cycle running, the inlet valve needs service and we do not recommend using the washer.
- We check the valve and the control separately.
- You get the price in writing, and a plain word if an older washer is not worth the repair.

How do I tell which F24 I have?
If the load was large and no extra water is entering, it was too much laundry. If water keeps running in after the drain step, the inlet is the cause and the washer should stay off.
Is it safe to run Rinse & Spin?
Yes, when the load was simply too big. Remove some items first, and follow the maximum load size in the washer's owner's manual so the next cycle does not stop again.
What if the water keeps coming in?
Close the faucet, unplug the washer and call us. Do not use it until the inlet has been checked, because it can fill the drum or the floor.
