What Detergent Level Indicator means
The Detergent Level Indicator on some Whirlpool front-load washers, the WFW5620HW, WFW9150WW and WFW90HEFW among them, shows the status of the Load and Go dispenser, in current and older generations. A yellow light means the cartridge holds enough detergent for only a few more cycles. A red light means there is no detergent left in it. Neither color is an error; the washer is simply telling you it is time to refill the cartridge.
Common causes of Detergent Level Indicator
- Cartridge down to its last few cycles of detergent
- Cartridge empty
- Refill done but the cartridge not seated afterward
- Detergent type or amount not matched to the dispenser
1. Open the dispenser drawer and look at the cartridge. 2. Refill it with the detergent your owner's manual calls for. 3. Push the cartridge back in firmly. 4. Close the drawer all the way. 5. Check that the indicator no longer shows yellow or red.
- A full, seated cartridge should clear the light, and if it does not, something else is reporting
- We test the level sensing and the dispenser on site
- A written price comes before any work, and the repair has a 30-day workmanship warranty
Other Washer codes
What do yellow and red mean?
Yellow lights when there is only enough detergent for a few more cycles. Red lights when the cartridge has none left. Both are prompts to refill.
Does the indicator mean the washer is broken?
No. It reads the cartridge level and nothing more, so a yellow or red light is a refill prompt. A refill and a firm seat in the drawer is normally all the washer needs.
What if it stays on after I refilled it?
Check that the cartridge is pushed in all the way and the drawer is closed. If the color remains, the sensing needs a test, which we do on site with the price quoted first.
Still unsure about Detergent Level Indicator?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
