What F7E2 means
F7E2 points at the control on most Whirlpool washers. On a top-load HE washer (Cabrio or WTW series, including older display-code models), the alert indicates an issue with the control unit, user interface or wiring. A standard laundry tower washer section names the main control unit (MCU). A compact ventless tower and front-load Duet or WFW washers offer only a power reset. The display shows the code and the washer may stop or refuse to start.
Common causes of F7E2
- Main control unit reading
- User interface or its wiring on a top-load
- Connector contact between boards
1. Pull the plug and let the washer sit for 5 minutes. 2. Restore power and check that the plug seats fully. 3. Close the lid or door and start a short cycle. 4. If the display still shows F7E2, book service and give us the model number.
- Repeats call for the control, interface and wiring to be read, which a reset cannot do.
- We work out which one is behind the alert before any part is ordered.
- We agree the cost with you in writing first.
Other Washer codes
Does F7E2 always mean replacing the control?
No. On a top-load it can involve the user interface or wiring too. We test each before recommending a replacement, and the cost is written down for you first.
Why do some Whirlpool pages say only to reset the power?
On a compact tower and on front-load washers, no part is named for F7E2. We therefore test the washer in operation and read its wiring instead of guessing from the code.
Is a Cabrio with F7E2 worth fixing?
It is an older platform that is still in plenty of homes, and we do repair it. If the control cost outweighs the washer's value, we say so plainly.
