What F7E1 means

F7E1 changes meaning with the platform. On a Whirlpool front-load Duet or WFW washer (WFW5620HW, WFW9150WW, WFW90HEFW), it is a motor speed sensing error: the motor cannot reach the speed the cycle asks for, and the first thing to rule out is that all four shipping bolts and plastic spacers were removed from the rear after delivery. On a laundry tower, the washer section reports a motor or rotor sensor. An older top-load HE washer (Cabrio or WTW) gives only a power reset.

Common causes of F7E1

  • Shipping bolts and spacers still installed on a front-load washer
  • Motor speed sensing circuit
  • Motor or rotor sensor on a laundry tower
  • Control reading on an older top-load
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the washer and wait 5 minutes, then restore power. 2. On a front-load washer that was recently installed, confirm all four rear shipping bolts and their spacers were taken out. 3. Make sure the load is not oversized and is not caught around the drum. 4. Run a short cycle. 5. Book service if F7E1 stays.

! Why to stop there
  • Bolts out and a reset still leave the motor speed circuit untested.
  • We read the motor and sensor behavior through a cycle.
  • On an older Cabrio or Duet we say plainly whether a repair is worth it.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F7E1F7E1 questions
Can leftover shipping bolts cause F7E1?

On a front-load washer, yes. The bolts and spacers lock the drum for transport, and the motor cannot reach the right speed with them in place. If the washer is new to the house, check this first.

Does F7E1 mean a bad motor?

Not by itself. It tells us the control sees a speed or sensor problem. We test the motor circuit, its sensor and the wiring before suggesting a part.

Would you repair an older Duet or Cabrio with F7E1?

Those washers are still in many homes and we repair them. We give a written price after testing, and say honestly if the cost does not suit the washer.
