What F5E4 means

F5E4 is mostly a reminder rather than a breakdown. On an all-in-one washer-dryer such as the WFC8090GX, it means three consecutive cycles ran without the door being opened, and START gives an invalid-key beep until you open and close it. A front-load Duet or WFW washer shows the same message. On a top-load HE washer (Cabrio or WTW series, including older display-code models), it refers to the lid being open, so open and close the lid.

Common causes of F5E4

  • Door not opened between cycles
  • Door or lid switch not registering
  • Clothes left inside after the cycle ended
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Open the door or lid fully, then close it firmly. 2. Remove the finished laundry promptly after the cycle. 3. Check around the latch for anything blocking it. 4. Press START again. 5. If F5E4 stays, unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then restore power. If it still returns, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • If the code stays after opening and closing the door, the switch is not registering.
  • We test the switch and the control reading.
  • If the switch does need attention, we agree the cost with you beforehand.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F5E4F5E4 questions
Why does my washer want the door opened?

After three cycles in a row without opening the door, the control asks for it to be opened. Open and close it, remove the clothes, and start again.

Is F5E4 a sign of a broken washer?

Usually not. It is a prompt on the all-in-one and front-load platforms. If it keeps appearing right after you open the door, we test the switch.

Does it mean the same on a Cabrio?

On a top-load it points to the lid being open. Close the lid fully and open it again; if the code persists, the lid switch needs a check from us.
