What F3E2 means

F3E2 on a Whirlpool top-load HE washer (Cabrio or WTW series, including older display-code models) can mean the hot and cold inlet hoses are swapped, or a valve is not fully open. On an all-in-one washer-dryer such as the WFC8090GX, it points to the temperature control sensor. A compact ventless laundry tower washer section reports the water level sensor, while a standard laundry tower reports a pressure sensor switch. Front-load Duet and WFW washers show only a power-reset instruction. You will see the code on the display and the cycle stops or never starts.

Common causes of F3E2

  • Hot and cold hoses connected to the wrong inlets on a top-load washer
  • Closed or partly open water valves
  • Temperature control sensor on an all-in-one washer-dryer
  • Water level or pressure sensor circuit on a laundry tower
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the hot hose is on the hot inlet and the cold hose is on the cold inlet. 2. Open both water valves fully and make sure the hoses are not kinked. 3. Cut power to the washer for 5 minutes, then reconnect it. 4. Run a short cycle. If F3E2 returns, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • Correct hoses and a reset do not rule out a sensor or wiring problem behind the code.
  • We check the inlet temperature and level or pressure readings for your specific platform.
  • If your washer is an older one we tell you honestly when repair is not worth it.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F3E2F3E2 questions
Can swapped hoses really cause F3E2?

On a top-load HE washer, yes. The control expects hot water on the hot inlet and cold on the cold inlet. If the two are reversed, it flags the mismatch. Swapping them back and resetting the power is the first thing to try.

Why does a laundry tower show F3E2 differently from a top-load washer?

The tower's washer section ties the code to a pressure sensor switch, and the compact ventless version ties it to the water level sensor. The same characters point to different circuits, so we identify the exact unit before testing anything.

Is an older Cabrio worth repairing for F3E2?

Older Cabrios are common in Houston homes and we do repair them. If the hoses and valves are fine, we test the sensing circuit and give you a written price before any work, and we say so if repair makes little sense.
