What F0E4 means
F0E4 tells you the washer senses water that is too hot. On the Whirlpool all-in-one washer-dryer WFC8090GX it is an over-temperature on the wash cycle, and the unit must be connected to the cold water supply only. On stacked laundry towers, front-load Duet and WFW washers such as the WFW5620HW, and top-load HE washers such as the WTW5000DW, the direction is to check that the hot and cold hoses are not swapped. The cycle stops and F0E4 shows.
Common causes of F0E4
- Hot and cold fill hoses connected to the wrong valves
- A washer-dryer attached to a hot supply
- A control that stopped and needs a power reset
- Water temperature sensing, which we test if the hoses are correct
1. Look at the two hoses behind the washer and confirm hot and cold are on the correct inlets. 2. On the washer-dryer, confirm the unit is connected to cold water only. 3. Reset by unplugging: 30 seconds on a laundry tower, 5 minutes on a front-load or top-load washer. 4. Plug in, start a cycle, and stop and call if F0E4 returns.
- If the hoses are right and the code returns, the temperature sensing or the inlet valves need testing.
- We check what temperature the fill really arrives at.
- You hear the price in writing before work, and we say plainly if an older machine is not worth the repair.
Other Washer codes
Why would a washer think the water is too hot?
Often the hoses were swapped at installation, or after a move. It can also be a washer-dryer connected to a hot line when it needs cold only.
Can I swap the hoses myself?
Turn off the faucets, then switch the hoses back to their correct inlets and check for drips. If the connections are stiff or corroded, we can do it.
What if F0E4 shows after a correct reset?
Then we measure the temperature of the incoming water and test the sensing and the valves. We explain what we find in plain words and quote the work in writing first.
Still seeing F0E4?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
