What E2 means
Here E2 is a draining alarm on the washer section of an older Whirlpool stacked laundry center, one of the models that print error codes. The control sees water still draining after 8 minutes and stops the cycle. You find standing water in the tub, a washer that will not spin, and E2 on the display. This model is old but still common. We work on it, and if a repair would not pay off we say so openly.
Common causes of E2
- A clog or kink in the drain hose
- A drain hose raised higher than the 100 cm limit from the floor
- A drain pump that is slow or partly blocked
- A drain standpipe or house drain that is backing up
1. Unplug the unit and keep towels ready for leftover water. 2. Check that the drain hose is not more than 39 1/3 inches (100 cm) above the floor. 3. Straighten any kink and remove clogs you can see from the hose. 4. Make sure the wall standpipe is clear, then plug in and restart the cycle.
- If the hose and standpipe are clear, the pump or its passage needs inspection.
- We check whether the slow drain is the washer or the house line.
- You get a written price before work and a 30-day workmanship warranty.

What triggers E2 on this washer?
The washer is still pumping water out after 8 minutes, so it gives up and stops the cycle. A kinked or blocked hose, or a hose set too high, is the first thing we look at.
Will water spill when I check the hose?
Some may. Unplug the unit and put towels and a shallow pan under the hose connection before you pull it free, and keep the free end low so the water in the hose runs into the pan rather than the floor.
Should I replace this old laundry center?
Not necessarily. Drain repairs are usually moderate in cost, and a clogged hose costs far less than a new unit. We quote first and tell you plainly if the machine's age says to save your money.
Still seeing E2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
