What Door Filter (Lint Screen) means
On Whirlpool electric and gas dryers in the WED and WGD series, Cabrio and Duet generations included, a door filter symbol means the lint screen in the door opening is blocked by lint or is not positioned properly. A screen clogged with lint increases drying time. Running the dryer with the screen loose, damaged, blocked, or missing can cause overheating and damage to the dryer and to your fabrics, so it is worth fixing right away.
Common causes of Door Filter (Lint Screen)
- Lint screen covered with lint
- Screen not pushed fully into its compartment
- Screen damaged or missing
- Lint that has slipped past the screen into the housing
1. Pull the lint screen straight up and roll the lint off with your fingers. 2. Do not rinse or wash the screen, because wet lint is hard to remove. 3. Push the screen firmly back into place, and check it sits in the compartment correctly. 4. Never run the dryer with the screen loose, damaged, blocked, or missing.
- If the symbol stays on with a clean, seated screen, the sensing or the housing needs inspection
- Lint that reached the housing is out of the owner's reach
- We inspect the area, and give you a written price before cleaning or repair

How often should I clean the lint screen?
Clean it every load. The screen sits in the door opening, and a screen clogged with lint increases drying time and strains the dryer. Pull it straight up and roll the lint off with your fingers.
Can I wash the lint screen with water?
No. Wet lint is hard to remove from the screen, so roll it off dry with your fingers. Only put the screen back once it is clean and dry.
The symbol is still on with a clean screen. Why?
Make sure the screen is pushed in fully. If it is, the sensing or the compartment may be at issue, and we can inspect it and quote in writing.
