What LF means
An LF code on a Whirlpool HybridCare heat-pump dryer means the HybridCare filter has been removed or is not seated. This is the older-generation display code for the lint filter, and many of these dryers are still in Houston homes. The dryer will not run properly without its filter in place, so the code appears and the cycle waits. Most of the time this is a quick fix at home with no tools needed.
Common causes of LF
- HybridCare filter not in place or not seated
- Filter handle not latched
- Filter sensing and its connection
- Lint blocking the filter seat
1. Open the filter area and check that the HybridCare filter is in place. 2. If it is out, slide it in and make sure the handle is properly seated. 3. Clean any lint from around the filter seat. 4. Close the door and restart the cycle. 5. If LF stays with the filter seated, schedule service.
- A filter that is seated and still flagged points to the sensing circuit
- We test the filter sensing before replacing parts
- This is an older model still in many homes, we repair it, and we say plainly if a repair is not worth it
Other Dryer codes
What is the HybridCare filter?
It is the lint filter in a Whirlpool HybridCare heat-pump dryer. LF tells you the control does not see it in place, so the dryer will not carry on until it is back.
The filter is in, but LF is on, why?
The handle may not be seated fully, or lint may be keeping it from sitting flat. Take it out, wipe the seat, and slide it in again until the handle is firm.
Is it worth repairing an older HybridCare dryer?
Often yes, when the problem is a sensing circuit or a simple part. We test first, quote in writing, and tell you honestly if the dryer's age makes repair poor value.
Still unsure about LF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
