What L2 means
L2 means low or no line voltage and appears on Whirlpool WED / WGD electric and gas dryers, including Cabrio and Duet, and on HybridCare heat-pump dryers. It says there may be a problem with the home power supply that keeps the dryer's heater from turning on, and the dryer keeps running while it shows. On HybridCare dryers the code can appear during the initial installation. Some owners also see F4E4 describe the same condition on a WED / WGD dryer.
Common causes of L2
- Dryer circuit breaker or fuse (an electric dryer uses two)
- Power cord installation at the dryer
- Outlet or terminal connection
- Home wiring feeding the dryer
1. Touch any pad to clear the code. 2. Check whether a household fuse blew or a breaker tripped; electric dryers use two. 3. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse. 4. Confirm the power cord is installed properly, as the installation instructions describe. 5. Select a timed dry heated cycle and restart. 6. If L2 stays, call a qualified electrician or us.
- Half a supply can come from the breaker panel, the outlet or inside the dryer
- We measure before we decide where the problem is
- We give a written price first, and we are honest if the repair belongs with an electrician
Other Dryer codes
Why does the dryer run but not heat with L2?
The drum motor can run on one side of the supply while the heater needs both. L2 warns that voltage looks low or absent for the heater.
Why does L2 show on a new HybridCare dryer?
It can appear during initial installation when the supply or cord connection is not complete. Check the breakers and the cord installation first, and call an electrician if it stays.
Is L2 the same as F4E4?
On a WED / WGD dryer, F4E4 describes the same low or no line voltage condition. Different generations use different display wording, but the first checks are the same.
