What F5E2 means
F5E2 means the washer cannot lock its door, and the details depend on platform. On a top-load HE washer (Cabrio or WTW series, including older display-code models), it is a lid lock alert: something may be obstructing the lock area. On a front-load Duet or WFW washer, the door is not locking properly and may not be latched. An all-in-one washer-dryer such as the WFC8090GX reports a door lock problem. A laundry tower washer section names the door switch, and the compact ventless version says the door is not closed.
Common causes of F5E2
- Obstruction or clothing in the lid lock area or door opening
- Door or lid not fully latched
- Door lock or door switch circuit reading
- Wiring between the lock and the control
1. Look at the lid lock area or the door opening and remove anything in the way. 2. Open the door or lid and close it firmly so it latches. 3. Pull the plug for 5 minutes, then plug the washer back in. 4. Start a short cycle. If F5E2 returns, schedule service.
- The latch may close cleanly yet the lock circuit still reads wrong, so it needs a test.
- We tell a mechanical latch problem from an electrical one.
- If the lock needs work, you see the number in writing before we start.
Other Washer codes
What is a lid lock alert on a Cabrio?
The washer cannot engage the lid lock, often because of an obstruction in the lock area or clothing in the way. Clear the area, reset, and if F5E2 returns we test the lock.
Can I force the door shut and run the cycle?
No. Forcing it can damage the latch. Close it gently but firmly, remove anything blocking it, and reset the power. If the code persists, schedule service.
Does an older top-load with F5E2 deserve a repair?
Older top-loads are still in many homes and we repair them. Lid lock work is usually moderate, and we say plainly when a repair is not worth it.
Still unsure about F5E2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
