What F1E1 means

F1E1 is a control-level code on several Whirlpool platforms. On compact ventless laundry towers the direction is a 5-minute power reset and nothing more. On stacked laundry towers and laundry centers the washer section lists ACU, the control, as the potential cause, with a 30-second reset. On top-load HE washers, the Cabrio and WTW family such as the WTW5000DW, an older platform still in many homes, it is again a 5-minute reset. Our technicians work on these, and when a repair would not pay off we say so.

Common causes of F1E1

  • A control that stalled and may clear with a reset
  • The ACU control circuit on stacked towers
  • A repeat condition in the control or its connections
  • A loose plug or weak outlet
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Unplug the washer. 2. Wait 5 minutes on a compact tower or top-load washer, and 30 seconds on a stacked tower or laundry center. 3. Plug it back in and run a short cycle. 4. A second F1E1 after the reset means the control needs testing, so schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • Because a reset only clears a one-time stop, a repeat of F1E1 means the control needs testing.
  • We check the control and its wiring on site, platform by platform.
  • Written price first, with a plain answer on repairing against replacing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F1E1F1E1 questions
Why do reset times differ for F1E1?

The instructions vary by platform. Compact towers and top-load washers call for 5 minutes, while stacked towers and laundry centers call for 30 seconds, so follow the one that matches your machine.

Is ACU something I can fix?

No. It refers to a control on the stacked tower, and it is not something an owner can service. If the reset does not clear it, we test the control and tell you what we find.

Is my older top-loader worth fixing?

Often it is. Resetting costs nothing, and many older top-loaders keep going for years. We give you a written price first and say plainly if the cost does not suit a washer of that age.
