What E1 means
On an older Whirlpool stacked laundry center, E1 is a water inlet alarm for the washer section. The control did not reach the correct water level within 20 minutes of the start of the cycle, so it stopped and displays E1. You see a tub that is empty or only partly filled, and no washing. Some models used these codes. Machines like this are still in many homes. We repair them, and we tell you straight when the cost would not be worth it.
Common causes of E1
- Water faucets partly closed or the supply pressure low
- Clogged screens at the inlet hose connections
- A drain hose set too low, letting water leave as it enters
- The water inlet valve or level sensing, which we test last
1. Make sure both water faucets behind the unit are fully open. 2. Confirm the household water pressure is adequate by running another tap. 3. Turn the faucets off, remove the inlet hoses, and clean the filter screens. Be careful not to remove or disturb the screen placement. 4. Check that the drain hose does not sit lower than 27 1/2 inches from the floor, then restart.
- If supply and hoses are good, the inlet valve or level sensing needs a test.
- We check whether the drain hose height is siphoning water out during fill.
- We quote the repair in writing, and tell you if the laundry center's age makes it a poor investment.
Other Washer codes
Why does E1 show on my stacked washer?
The tub did not fill to the right level within 20 minutes. Closed faucets, clogged inlet screens, low pressure or a drain hose set too low are the usual starting points.
Do I need to remove the inlet screens?
You can clean them with the water off, but take care not to disturb how the screens sit. If they are stuck or damaged, we can handle it without harming the hose fittings.
Is this laundry center still worth fixing?
Often, because fill problems are modest repairs. We give a written price first and say plainly if the unit's age makes repair a poor choice.
Still seeing E1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
