Whirlpool WGD8500BC 29-Inch Gas Dryer Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Burner shutting off before the cycle ends
- Gas shutoff and connector
- Belt and idler
- Lint in the lower cabinet
- Door switch
The WGD8500BC is a Whirlpool 29-inch gas dryer. Besides WGD8500BC0, the number is sold as WGD8500BR0 and WGD8500BW0, and the second-to-last letter hints at a different finish.
When we repair a wide gas dryer like this, the cabinet itself deserves attention. Lint finds its way past the lint screen and settles in the lower cabinet near the burner. We vacuum it out because it restricts the air the burner needs and is a fire concern. After that we look at why a burner might shut off early, checking thermostats, the vent and the valve coils.
The gas shutoff and connector get a visual check each time the dryer is moved. A snapped belt or a door switch that stops registering accounts for most no-spin cases. Parts follow the model and serial label, the price is written first, and we cover our work for 30 days.

Why clean the lower cabinet of a gas dryer?
Lint that gets past the screen collects near the burner, where it blocks airflow and can ignite. Cleaning it is routine on our gas dryer visits.
What do BC, BR and BW stand for?
They are endings that often point to color or revision differences. We rely on the full number on the label, not a guess.
Why would the burner stop before the cycle ends?
Overheating from poor airflow, a tired valve coil or a thermostat that opens too soon. We test airflow and then each part.
