What FH means
FH on a Whirlpool front-load washer from the Duet and WFW family, current or older, means a water inlet problem: no water or not enough is arriving. The washer waits for the tub to fill, gives up, and displays FH. It is a different code from Lo FL and F8 E1, which describe the fill amount; FH points at the supply side. Typical culprits are closed faucets, kinked hoses or clogged screens where the hoses meet the washer. Models like the WFW5620HW and WFW9150WW show it this way.
Common causes of FH
- A faucet on the hot or cold side that is only partly open
- Inlet hose kinked or crushed behind the washer
- Screens at the hose connections clogged with sediment
- Inlet valve or control circuit, once supply is confirmed
1. Press Pause/Cancel twice to cancel the cycle, then unplug the washer. 2. Make sure both the hot and cold faucets are completely open. 3. Check that neither inlet hose is bent or flattened. 4. Shut the faucets and look at the screens where the hoses attach for debris, then reconnect and run a short cycle.
- If water flows freely to the washer and FH still appears, the valve or the control becomes the question.
- We measure the supply at the hoses, then test the valve circuit, instead of replacing parts on a guess.
- You get the price in writing first, and the work we complete carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Washer codes
Is FH the same as Lo FL?
No. FH reports that water is not coming in or is insufficient. Lo FL and F8 E1 report that the washer is not detecting the right amount of incoming water. We check the supply for both, but we read them separately.
Why would the screens clog?
Sediment, scale and rust flakes from household plumbing collect in the small screens at the hose ends. After a plumbing job or a water main flush they often catch more debris than usual.
Can low water pressure trigger FH?
Yes. A half-closed shutoff or weak house pressure can make the fill too slow for the control. If other faucets run strongly and only the washer struggles, the hoses, screens or inlet valve are suspect.
Still seeing FH?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
