What F5E1 means
F5E1 is a door-switch alert, and the wording shifts a little by platform. On an all-in-one washer-dryer such as the WFC8090GX, the door is unlocked during a cycle when it should be locked. On a laundry tower washer section, the door switch is named, and the door may look shut without being latched. Front-load Duet and WFW washers and top-load HE washers (Cabrio and WTW series, including older display-code models) ask you to confirm the door or lid is fully closed with nothing blocking the switch. The cycle stops or will not begin.
Common causes of F5E1
- Door or lid not fully latched
- Clothing or shipping material blocking the switch
- Door switch circuit reading
- Door lock position on an all-in-one washer-dryer
1. Open the door or lid, then close it firmly until it latches. 2. Look around the opening for laundry sticking out, and shrink the load if clothes cannot tumble freely. 3. Check that no shipping material is wedged near the switch. 4. Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then restore power. 5. Start a short cycle. If F5E1 returns, schedule service.
- A firmly closed door that still reads open points to the switch circuit, which needs testing.
- We separate a latch problem from a wiring or control reading.
- On an older Cabrio or Duet we say plainly when repair is not worth it.
Other Washer codes
Why does my washer say F5E1 when the door looks closed?
A door can look shut without being latched. Open it and close it firmly, and check for clothing in the opening. If the code stays, the switch circuit is what we test next.
Does F5E1 mean the same on a top-load as on a front-load?
The idea is the same: the control thinks the door or lid is not secure. On a top-load it is the lid switch, on a front-load the door switch, and on an all-in-one it also involves the lock.
Is my older Duet worth repairing for F5E1?
Duets of that age are still in many homes and we repair them. A door switch problem is often modest, and we give a written price and tell you plainly if it is not worth doing.
Still unsure about F5E1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
