What F2E1 means
F2E1 has two readings. On the washer section of a laundry tower or stacked laundry center it lists a stuck key as the potential cause, so a button on the control panel may be reading as pressed. On top-load HE washers, the Cabrio and WTW family such as the WTW5105HW, an older platform still in many homes, it is only a power-reset instruction with no part named. We take these on, and if fixing one would be poor value we will say that to you directly.
Common causes of F2E1
- A control panel button that is pressed down or reading as held
- Moisture or residue under the panel keys
- A control that stalled and clears with a reset
- A control board input, which we test last
1. Look at the control panel and press each button once to check none feels stuck. 2. Wipe the panel with a dry cloth; keep liquid away from it. 3. Unplug the washer: 30 seconds on a stacked tower, 5 minutes on a top-load washer. 4. Plug it in and start a cycle. If F2E1 returns, schedule service.
- A stuck key reading can come from the panel or the board, and a reset cannot tell which.
- We test the panel inputs on site.
- Written price first, and a straight answer on repairing an older top-loader.
Other Washer codes
What is a stuck key?
It is a control panel button that the washer reads as pressed all the time. The code points there, but a reset is the first test, since it shows whether the reading was a one-time event.
Can I spray cleaner on the panel?
No. Use a dry or barely damp cloth only. Liquid that runs under the keys can cause the very problem the code is reporting, and it can reach the board behind the panel.
Is an older top-load washer worth the repair?
Often yes, since panel and board repairs vary a great deal in cost. We quote in writing and say plainly if the cost does not suit the washer's age.
Still seeing F2E1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
