What Check Vent Light means
Check Vent is an indicator on Whirlpool compact ventless laundry towers, and it concerns the dryer's airflow. It works only on automatic cycles. Early in the cycle, during the sensing phase, the light comes on if the unit detects a blocked vent or low airflow, and it stays on for the entire cycle. It clears when the cycle finishes, when you touch Power, or when you open the door, but it returns while the cause remains. The dryer still runs with the light on, though dry times can suffer.
Common causes of Check Vent Light
- Lint screen or filter clogged
- Restricted airflow through the vent system
- Dryer vent or duct crushed or blocked
- Airflow path blocked around the unit
1. Remove the lint screen and clean it of lint. 2. Check that the air path around the unit is clear. 3. Look for any crushed or blocked duct and clear it. 4. Run an automatic cycle again. 5. If the light returns in the first minutes of the cycle, note the time.
- The light shows low airflow but not where the restriction is
- We trace the airflow path and the sensors on site
- A written price comes first and a 30-day workmanship warranty covers the repair

Can I keep drying with Check Vent lit?
The dryer continues to run with the indicator lit, but poor airflow can lengthen dry times and affect performance. It is best to clear the cause soon.
When does the light clear?
It clears at the end of the cycle, when you touch Power, or when you open the door. If the cause remains, it comes back during the next automatic cycle.
Why only on automatic cycles?
The indicator works only on Automatic Cycles, because the sensing phase at the start of those cycles is what measures airflow. Manual cycles do not trigger it.
