What F3E2 means
F3E2 is a sensing code, but its wording depends on the machine. On WED / WGD electric and gas dryers, it appears when five loads in a row finish without the moisture sensor registering anything, often from a dryer that is not level or sensor bars coated with residue. On a compact ventless laundry tower the entry is a humidity sensor; on a laundry tower or stacked laundry center it is a pressure sensor switch. On the all-in-one washer-dryer such as WFC8090GX, it is the temperature control sensor.
Common causes of F3E2
- Moisture sensor bars dirty or not touched by clothes (WED / WGD)
- Dryer sitting level on its feet
- Humidity or pressure sensor circuit on a tower
- Temperature control sensor on the washer-dryer
1. Press POWER to clear the code and restart. 2. Wipe the metal sensor strips inside the drum with a damp cloth, then dry them. 3. Check that the dryer sits level. 4. If it persists, turn off the breaker for one minute and start a timed dry cycle. 5. On the washer-dryer or a tower, unplug it for at least five minutes (washer-dryer) or one minute (tower) and try again.
- The same characters point to different sensors, so we confirm your platform before testing
- A moisture reading problem can be bar residue, levelness or the sensor circuit
- We quote the price in writing first, and on an older unit we tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense
Other Dryer codes
What does F3E2 mean on my WED or WGD dryer?
It means five consecutive loads dried without moisture sensor data. Pressing POWER clears it. Dirty sensor strips or an unlevel dryer that keeps clothes from touching them are the usual things we look at first.
Why does it matter whether the dryer is level?
A dryer that leans can let clothes tumble away from the sensor strips inside the drum. They then give no moisture reading, and the control eventually flags F3E2. Adjusting the feet can help.
Is it the same code on a washer-dryer?
The characters are the same, but the meaning differs. On the all-in-one washer-dryer it points to the temperature control sensor, and the listed reset is to unplug it for at least five minutes.
