What HI or LO means
HI or LO is a message shown on Whirlpool undercounter refrigerators and beverage centers. The brand's guidance for it is only a power reset: switch the unit off for one minute, switch it on, and watch whether the message returns, then confirm the unit is cooling normally. That guidance names no sensor, fan or other part, and it does not give a temperature figure. So the owner's role is to rule out a one-time glitch and see how the unit is actually behaving, while we handle what the message points to if it comes back.
Common causes of HI or LO
- Control reading that the display reports as high or low
- Temperature sensor circuit reporting an odd value
- Door left ajar or recently stocked with warm drinks
- Power interruption that left the control unsettled
1. Shut the door fully and give the unit a moment to settle. 2. Turn off the breaker, or unplug the unit, for one full minute. 3. Restore the power. 4. Watch the display for another minute to see if HI or LO appears again. 5. Check by hand and with a thermometer that the unit is cooling as it should.
- The reset shows whether HI or LO was momentary, and it does not tell us which circuit raised it
- If the message returns, we compare the display against a thermometer reading and test the sensor circuit
- The price is written before work, and older undercounter units get an honest opinion on repair value

What do HI and LO mean on a beverage center?
The guidance for this display only describes the power reset and does not translate the letters into a cause. Comparing the display to a thermometer in the cabinet is the quickest way to see whether the unit is really off its temperature.
Can warm drinks trigger the message?
A fresh load of warm bottles can pull the temperature up for a while, and a door left open can do the same. Close the door, let the unit recover, and see whether the message clears on its own.
Do you repair undercounter units?
Yes. We test first, give you the price in writing, and stand behind our repair with a 30-day workmanship warranty. If a small unit is past the point of sensible repair, we say so.
