What TempAlarm means
TempAlarm is the over-temperature alert on Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators with an in-door dispenser, such as the WRS325SDHZ, and on French-door bottom-freezer models such as the WRF535SMHZ. It sounds when the refrigerator rises above 48 degrees F (9 C) or the freezer above 15 degrees F (minus 9 C) for more than an hour and a half. The tone stops by itself when temperatures recover, but the indicator light keeps flashing until you press the Alarm button, so you know it happened.
Common causes of TempAlarm
- Door left open or not sealing during a busy day
- Power interruption that let the compartments warm
- Large load of warm food added at once
- Cooling problem if temperatures do not recover
1. Close both doors fully and make sure nothing blocks the seals. 2. Give the refrigerator time to cool back down. 3. Press the Alarm button once to stop the flashing light. 4. Check each compartment with a thermometer later in the day. 5. If temperatures do not return to normal, move perishables to a cooler.
- The alert reports that a limit was passed and not why
- If temperatures do not return to normal, we test the cooling system on site
- You see the price in writing before work, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty
Other Refrigerator codes
Why is the light still flashing if the alarm stopped?
The tone shuts off by itself when temperatures return to normal, but the light stays on until you press Alarm. It is there to tell you an over-temperature event occurred.
Is my food spoiled after the alarm?
The alarm means a compartment stayed above the limit for more than 90 minutes. Check how food feels and use a thermometer. Refrigerated food kept above 48 degrees F for long is a concern.
What if it keeps happening?
Repeated alerts with doors closed point to a cooling problem. We test the system, give a written price first, and say plainly when an older refrigerator is not worth repairing.
