What Control Lock means
Control Lock is a feature on Whirlpool bottom-freezer refrigerators such as the WRB322DMBM or WRB329DFBM, not an error. It locks the display so that an accidental touch, or cleaning the door, does not change anything. You turn it on by holding the Wi-Fi button for 3 seconds, and the lock icon lights. All the buttons then stay unavailable until you hold the same button for 3 seconds again. The water and ice dispenser keeps working throughout.
Common causes of Control Lock
- Control lock switched on by holding the Wi-Fi button
- Lock set during cleaning or by an accidental touch
- Display still unresponsive after unlocking
1. Hold the Wi-Fi button for 3 seconds. 2. Check that the lock icon turns off. 3. Press a control to confirm the features respond again. 4. If the display still does not respond, turn off the refrigerator's breaker or unplug it for one minute. 5. Restore power and watch the display.
- If the display stays dead after unlocking and a power cycle, the control or its connection is not responding
- We would test the display and board connection and quote the work in writing first
- The dispenser working normally does not tell us the display is healthy

How do I turn off the lock icon?
Hold the Wi-Fi button for 3 seconds. The lock icon turns off and every feature becomes available again. The same press turns the lock on, which is how it usually gets set by accident.
Will the lock stop my water and ice?
No. The control lock does not interrupt the water and ice dispenser. Only the display buttons are locked, so you can still pour water or get ice while the lock is on.
Do you service older bottom-freezer models?
Yes. Older Whirlpool bottom-freezer refrigerators are still in many Houston kitchens. We provide a written price first, a 30-day workmanship warranty, and an honest opinion when repair is not worthwhile.
Still unsure about Control Lock?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
