What F3E1 means
The F3E1 message is reported by Whirlpool freestanding and slide-in ranges like the WFE515S0ES and by built-in wall ovens like the WOS51EC0HS. For a range, the oven temperature sensor, the control and the wiring are listed after a one-minute breaker reset. For a wall oven, the guidance specifically names the lower oven's temperature sensor. The oven is telling you that the heat reading from that cavity looks wrong, so the lower cavity may not preheat or may stop partway through.
Common causes of F3E1
- Lower oven temperature sensor on a double wall oven
- Wiring between sensor and control
- Control board input for the sensor
- Range oven sensor and its connector
1. Let the oven cool and check that the door is shut firmly. 2. Turn the breaker off, wait a minute, then turn it back on. 3. Stand by the display for a minute to see whether F3E1 comes back. 4. Run a short cycle, in the lower cavity on a double oven. 5. Note whether the upper oven behaves normally and tell us.
- The reset cannot show whether the sensor, its wiring or the control is the weak link
- If F3E1 returns, we test the lower cavity sensor and its connection before ordering anything
- You see the price in writing before we start, and the 30-day workmanship warranty covers the work

Does F3E1 mean the lower oven is broken?
Not necessarily. It means the lower oven's temperature reading looks wrong. That can be the sensor, its wiring or the control, which we separate by testing.
Can I use the upper oven meanwhile?
Often yes if it works normally, but the controls are shared, so if the display behaves strangely turn off the breaker and let us look.
Why is E1 different from E0?
On wall ovens the guidance ties E0 to the upper oven and E1 to the lower one. On a range there is one oven, so the single sensor circuit applies.
Still seeing F3E1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
