What LOC means
LOC means the control lock is on, not that something has broken. On Whirlpool freestanding and slide-in ranges, such as the WFE515S0ES or WFG525S0HV, the lock shuts down the control pads and locks the oven door to prevent unintended use. LOC also appears whenever you press a pad while it is active. Built-in wall ovens, such as the WOS51EC0HS or WOC54EC7HS, use the same lock for the same reason. The lock is preset to unlocked, and it cannot be switched on while the oven is running.
Common causes of LOC
- Control lock switched on, on purpose or by accident
- Start/Enter held down long enough to lock the controls on a range
- Oven still running, so the lock cannot be turned off or on yet
1. Make sure the oven and timer are off. 2. On a range, touch and hold Start/Enter for 5 seconds. 3. Listen for the single tone and check that LOC disappears from the display. 4. On a wall oven, follow the unlock steps in your Owner's Manual. 5. Try a normal oven setting to confirm the controls respond.
- If LOC stays after the unlock steps, the pad or the door lock may not be answering as it should
- We would test the control and the door lock in person and give a written price first
- The unlock steps differ by model, so we show you the right one on a visit

What does LOC mean on my oven?
It means the control lock is active. The lock disables the pads and locks the oven door to prevent accidental use. It is a setting rather than damage, and it is switched off from the controls.
How do I unlock a Whirlpool range?
With the oven and timer off, touch and hold Start/Enter for 5 seconds. A single tone sounds and LOC leaves the display. Wall ovens follow their own manual's steps for the same lock.
Do you help with older ovens that stay locked?
Yes. Older ranges and wall ovens are still common in Houston, and we repair them. A written price comes first, a 30-day workmanship warranty follows, and we say plainly when a repair is not worth it.
Still unsure about LOC?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
