What Indicator Flashing means
A flashing indicator on a Whirlpool freestanding or slide-in range, gas or electric, such as the WFE515S0ES or WFG525S0HV, has two readings depending on the cooktop. On a smoothtop, it means one or more keys are being read as permanently pressed. On an induction cooktop, it can mean the controls are not set correctly. Either way, the touch controls are the focus, not the heating hardware. You will see the indicator light blinking where the cooktop controls are.
Common causes of Indicator Flashing
- Debris or moisture on the touch panel registering as a pressed key
- Object resting on the control area
- Controls not set as the cooktop expects, on an induction model
- Touch panel responding wrongly even when clean
1. Make sure every cooktop control is off. 2. Take away any pan, cloth or object resting on the control area. 3. Wipe the touch control panel clean of spills and debris. 4. On an induction cooktop, check your Owner's Manual for how the controls should be set. 5. Watch whether the indicator stops blinking.
- If the panel is clean and clear and the light still flashes, a key may be reading as pressed for a reason you cannot see
- We would then test the touch control and its connection and quote the work in writing first
- Which kind of cooktop you have changes the diagnosis, so we confirm that on arrival

Why is the indicator on my cooktop flashing?
On a smoothtop it usually means a key is read as permanently pressed, often from spills or an object on the controls. On induction it can mean the controls are set incorrectly. Cleaning and checking comes first.
How do I clean the touch panel?
Turn all controls off, remove anything on the panel, and wipe away debris with a soft cloth. Keep moisture out of the edges. The aim is a panel with nothing pressing or bridging any key.
Will you repair an older cooktop that still flashes?
Yes. Older ranges are common here, and we repair them. A written price comes first, a 30-day workmanship warranty follows the work, and we say honestly if the repair is not worth it.
Still unsure about Indicator Flashing?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
