What F1-1 means
F1-1 belongs to an older generation of Whirlpool freestanding and slide-in ranges, models including the WFE515S0ES family, that print the code with a dash. Plenty of these ovens are still in Houston kitchens, and we repair them. The published response is a power reset, with the oven temperature sensor, the control and the wiring named as the areas involved. So the oven may be struggling to read or act on its temperature, and you will see the code on the display.
Common causes of F1-1
- Oven temperature sensor
- Wiring harness to the sensor
- Control board input
1. Let the oven cool and remove anything inside. 2. Turn off the range's breaker for one minute. 3. Turn it on again. 4. Watch for one minute to see if F1-1 comes back. 5. Test with a short bake.
- Older ranges have older connectors, and a marginal connection can look like a failed part until it is tested
- We check the sensor, its wiring and the control before recommending anything
- If the range is too old to repair sensibly, we say so plainly before you spend money
Other Range codes
Could F1-1 be confused with F11?
No. The dash is part of the older display style, so F1-1 is its own code on its own page. Please tell us exactly what your display shows if you are unsure.
Can a range this old still be repaired?
Usually yes. Parts for many older Whirlpool ranges can still be found, and we repair them regularly. We quote in writing first and say honestly if replacing the range would be the wiser choice.
Is it safe to use the burners meanwhile?
The code concerns the oven, but we cannot promise the rest of the range is unaffected. If anything acts strangely, shut it off at the breaker.
Still seeing F1-1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
