What PUSH or PSH means

PUSH or PSH on a Whirlpool built-in microwave or microwave drawer, model WMC50522AS for instance, is a prompt that means press Start. The Start pad begins any oven function. If you have not pressed it within five seconds of setting up the function, PUSH or PSH appears. If Start is still not pressed within a minute after a keypad press, the function is canceled and the time of day returns. This is normal behavior and not a malfunction.

Common causes of PUSH or PSH

  • Start not pressed after entering a function
  • Start pad not responding to presses
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Set the function you want. 2. Press Start within five seconds of finishing. 3. If PUSH or PSH shows even after you pressed Start, press it again firmly. 4. If the pad still seems unresponsive, switch the breaker off for a minute and on again.

! Why to stop there
  • PUSH or PSH is a prompt, so the only reason to call us is a Start pad that does not respond.
  • We test the Start pad and its connection if a press does nothing.
  • A written price comes first.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
PUSH or PSHPUSH or PSH questions
Does PUSH mean something is broken?

No. It tells you to press Start. The function waits for Start and cancels after a minute if you do not press it. Press Start soon after entering your settings, and the prompt will not appear at all.

Why does it cancel my setting?

If Start is not pressed within one minute after a keypad press, the oven cancels the function and returns to the time of day. This is a safeguard so the oven does not stay half-programmed, and you simply enter the settings again.

The Start pad does nothing. What now?

Press it firmly, then reset the breaker for a minute. If the pad still does not respond, the keypad may need testing, and we can do that.
