What E12 means
On Whirlpool over-the-range microwaves, such as models WMH31017HS, WMH32519HZ and WMH53521HZ, E12 says there is a problem with the gas sensor or the wiring attached to it. Unlike E11, which is a report from the sensor, E12 states the problem more directly. The gas sensor reads steam and vapor during sensor cooking. Owners see E12 in the display, and automatic sensor programs may refuse to run while plain timed cooking still might.
Common causes of E12
- Gas sensor
- Wiring and connector at the sensor
- Control board reading the sensor circuit
1. Turn the circuit breaker for the microwave off and leave it off for one minute. 2. Turn it on again. 3. Keep watching the microwave for one minute to make sure E12 does not come back. 4. Run a plain timed cycle to check the oven operation. 5. Wipe grease or steam film from the cavity and vents with a damp cloth.
- After a reset we still do not know whether the sensor or its wiring is the cause, so we test the circuit directly.
- If E12 returns right away, the circuit usually has a lasting problem rather than a one-time glitch.
- We give you the diagnosis and a written price before any repair.
Other Microwave codes
How is E12 different from E11?
Both involve the gas sensor circuit. E11 is the sensor reporting a problem to the control board, while E12 says the problem is with the sensor or its wiring. We test the same circuit for both.
Can I cook with E12 showing?
Timed cooking often still works, but sensor programs may not. If the oven stops entirely or E12 returns after a breaker reset, call us and we will test the sensor circuit.
What does the repair cost?
We tell you before work starts. After testing, you get a written price for the exact repair, and finished work is covered by our 30-day workmanship warranty.
