What F2 means

An F2 on a Whirlpool range, gas or electric, freestanding or slide-in, such as the WFE515S0ES or WFG525S0HV, steers attention to the oven temperature sensor, the control board and the wiring joining them. Built-in wall ovens, single, double and microwave-combo, such as the WOS51EC0HS or WOC54EC7HS, display the same F2, although one version of their instructions names no part at all. Put simply, the oven is not receiving a believable temperature reading. The display shows the code, and the oven may refuse to heat or quit partway through a cycle.

Common causes of F2

  • Oven temperature sensor reading outside its normal range
  • Wiring or connector between the sensor and the control
  • Control board misreading the sensor input
  • Heating that does not match what the sensor reports
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Allow the oven to cool and push the door fully shut. 2. Flip the oven's breaker to off and count a full minute. 3. Restore power at the breaker. 4. Stay nearby for a minute and see whether F2 reappears. 5. Bake something simple to confirm the oven behaves normally. On a wall oven, begin a cycle once power is back.

! Why to stop there
  • A reset clears a one-time glitch but cannot tell us whether the sensor, the wiring or the control is the weak link
  • If F2 returns we check the sensor's reading and the connection to the control, then give you a written price before any work
  • Older ranges and wall ovens still in many Houston homes are welcome; we say plainly when a repair is not worth it
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F2F2 questions
Is F2 the same on a range and a wall oven?

The code and the reset routine match, and the lists of suspects include the oven temperature sensor, the control and the wiring. Wall-oven models may differ in which sensor is meant, so we confirm by model on site.

Can I keep cooking on the cooktop with F2 showing?

The code concerns the oven, but if the display is acting strangely, switch the breaker off and have the range looked at. Never open panels yourself. A gas smell means leaving the house and calling the utility from outside.

Will resetting the breaker fix it?

Sometimes a one-time glitch clears and the code stays away. If F2 returns, the reset has not removed the cause, and we test the sensor circuit and the control, with the price in writing first.
