What F05 means
F05 on a Whirlpool freestanding or slide-in range, for instance the WFG525S0HV, or on a built-in wall oven like the WOC54EC7HS or WOS51EC0HS, brings the oven door into question. The guidance is a one-minute power reset, with the door latch assembly, the door switch and the wiring all named. On ranges, the door-lock side of the oven is what the control is not satisfied with, and a cleaning or baking cycle may not start while the code shows.
Common causes of F05
- Door latch assembly
- Door switch contacts
- Wiring in the door circuit
- Control reading the door
1. Close the oven door fully and make sure nothing is caught in it. 2. Switch the oven's breaker off and wait one minute. 3. Switch it on. 4. Stay near the oven for a minute to see if the code reappears. 5. Run a short bake to check that the oven works.
- If F05 returns, the latch or its switch needs testing and the display cannot tell us which
- We test the latch movement and the switch before touching the wiring
- You hear the price first, and nothing is replaced without your approval
Other Range codes
Why does F05 involve the door?
Because the parts the guidance names, the latch, the switch and their wiring, all belong to the oven door circuit. The control watches that circuit before it allows certain cycles.
Does F05 affect the self-clean cycle?
It can. A cleaning cycle relies on the door lock working correctly, so we advise not starting one while F05 shows, and having the latch circuit tested first.
Can an older wall oven have this code?
Yes. Older Whirlpool wall ovens are in many homes. We repair them and are open about it when a repair would cost more than it is worth.
Still seeing F05?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
