GJC3054
Whirlpool GJC3054 Radiant Cooktop Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Element cycling at middle settings
- Hot surface light turning off once the glass cools
- Trim band paint near the edge
- Glass seal for debris and liquid entry
The GJC3054 is a Whirlpool built-in electric cooktop of the GJC family, with radiant elements under a ceramic surface, hot surface lights and rotary controls. It is an older model that sits in the counter of many Houston kitchens and gets used daily.
A radiant element is controlled by an infinite switch that cycles it on and off at middle settings, so we watch how it cycles before we replace anything. We also check that the hot surface light goes out as the glass cools, look at the painted trim band along the edge, and clean the seal where grease and spills collect.
The suffix after the number can change parts, so we read the full model and serial from the label before ordering. We give you a written price before the work, and every repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty. If an older cooktop is better replaced, we say that too.

Error codes this model can show
Why does my GJC3054 element switch on and off at medium?
That cycling is normal for an infinite switch, but if the pauses are long or uneven the switch contacts may be worn. We time the cycle and test the switch.
The hot surface light stays on after the glass cools. Why?
The light is wired to a sensor or the zone circuit, and a problem in either keeps it lit. We check what controls the light on your variant before we quote.
Can the edge trim be fixed?
Lifting paint on the trim band is cosmetic, but trapped debris under the edge can reach the wiring. We clean the seal area and tell you if the trim needs replacing.
