What H means
On a Whirlpool induction cooktop, H on the display means the cooking zone is hot. It lights even if you never turned that zone on, because the heat can come from the zone next to it or from a hot pot you set down there. When the zone has cooled, the H disappears by itself. It is a warning, not a breakdown.
Common causes of H
- Heat remaining from a recent pot
- Heat spreading from the adjacent zone
- If H stays on a cold zone for a long time: the temperature sensing for that zone
1. Keep hands and towels away from the zone showing H. 2. Turn off any zone you are not using. 3. Wait for the zone to cool and for H to go out. 4. Move any hot pot to a trivet or another cooking area. 5. If H stays on after the glass feels cold, turn off the cooktop's breaker for a minute.
- If H remains on a cold, empty zone, we cannot tell from the display whether the sensing is wrong.
- We test the zone's temperature reading and the control.
- You get the price in writing first, and we say plainly when an older cooktop is not worth repairing.
Other Cooktop codes
Why does H appear on a zone I did not use?
Heat travels. The zone beside the one you used, or a hot pot you placed there, can warm the glass enough to show H.
How long until the H goes out?
It goes out when the zone has cooled. The time depends on how hot the glass got and the pans used. It needs no action from you.
Is H a sign the cooktop is broken?
No, it is normal. Only an H that stays on a cold zone after a long time is worth a call to us.
Still unsure about H?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
