What F1 means
An F1 on the display of a Whirlpool freestanding or slide-in range (the WFE515S0ES and WFG515S0ES for instance) or of a built-in wall oven such as the WOD51EC0HS tells you the oven wants attention. The published step is a breaker reset. It names the oven temperature sensor, the control and the wiring. On some older Whirlpool ovens F1 is followed by a dash and another character, and those longer codes have their own pages here.
Common causes of F1
- Oven temperature sensor
- Wiring from the sensor to the control
- Control reading the sensor
1. Switch off the oven and let it cool. 2. Switch off the circuit breaker that feeds the oven and keep it off for a minute. 3. Turn the breaker on. 4. Monitor the oven for one minute to see if F1 shows again. 5. Verify normal operation with a short bake.
- A plain F1 that returns means the cause is still present and the display cannot tell us which of the three areas it is
- We test the sensor, check the wiring and then the control, in that order
- The price is written down for you before we start
Other Range codes
What is the difference between F1 and F1-1?
Older ovens show the dash and another character after F1 and the guidance treats them as separate codes. A plain F1 is the shorter message on the platforms listed here.
Do I have to replace the sensor?
Not necessarily. The sensor is only one of three areas named. We test first, and a loose connection can look just like a bad sensor.
Is it worth fixing an old oven with F1?
Often yes, since sensor circuits are routine work. We tell you before we start if the age and condition of the oven make repair a poor choice.
Still seeing F1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
