What F1-2 means

Some older Whirlpool freestanding and slide-in ranges, including those like the WFG515S0ES family, flash F1-2 when the oven has a problem it wants reset. The published step is cycling power, and the areas named are the oven temperature sensor, the control and the wiring that joins them. These ovens have served for years in many homes, and we still repair them. Expect the code on the display, and the oven may not heat or hold temperature as it should.

Common causes of F1-2

  • Oven sensor wearing with age
  • Connector or wire to the sensor
  • Control board
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch off the oven and give it time to cool. 2. Turn the breaker off for a minute, then back on. 3. Keep an eye on the display for one minute. 4. Bake at a normal setting to confirm the oven heats correctly. 5. If F1-2 returns, leave the oven off.

! Why to stop there
  • After a reset the cause stays unknown, because the sensor, its wiring and the control all fit the same code
  • We measure the sensor circuit and inspect the wiring on site
  • Our price comes first, and we tell you if the age of the range makes repair questionable
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F1-2F1-2 questions
Why does an older range show a dash in the code?

Older displays used a first part and a second part separated by a dash. The second part tells the manufacturer's technicians more, but the owner guidance gives one reset for the family.

Does F1-2 mean the sensor has failed?

Not for certain. It means the circuit that includes the sensor needs checking, and the wiring or the control can cause the same code. We test the circuit before we name a part.

How old is too old to repair?

There is no fixed age. We look at parts availability and cost, then tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement serves you better.
