What E63 means

E63 appears on Whirlpool over-the-range microwaves such as WMH31017HS, WMH32519HZ and WMH53521HZ, when the oven sensor circuit reports a shorted condition to the control board. The guidance for E63 matches E62, so it does not tell us a different part is at work. The sensor, the appliance control board or the wiring may be involved. You will see E63 in the display, and the oven may not run a normal cycle.

Common causes of E63

  • Oven sensor
  • Shorted or pinched wiring
  • Appliance control board
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch off the breaker for the microwave for one minute. 2. Switch it back on. 3. Monitor the unit for one minute to make sure E63 does not return. 4. Run a short cycle if the display is clear. 5. If E63 appears again, leave the microwave off and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Only a circuit test shows whether the sensor, harness or board produces the shorted reading.
  • Because E62 and E63 share the same guidance, we do not assume which one is which part; we measure.
  • You decide on the repair after you see the written price.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E63E63 questions
Why are there two codes for a shorted sensor?

The manufacturer lists both E62 and E63 with the same shorted-circuit wording. We treat them as the same area and test it. The testing is the same either way.

Is E63 a reason to replace the microwave?

Not by itself. A short is often a single sensor or wire, and we tell you plainly if replacing the unit is the better value.

What happens during your visit?

We test, explain the cause, quote a written price, and start only after you agree. Our work has a 30-day workmanship warranty. You then decide whether to go ahead.
