What Rinse Only Light means
On older Whirlpool portable dishwashers, a rapidly flashing Rinse Only light means more than one key is stuck down. The control sees several buttons pressed at once and cannot start a normal cycle. This is an older-style display still found in many homes, and we repair these machines. Owners notice the light blinking quickly and the dishwasher ignoring commands or refusing to run.
Common causes of Rinse Only Light
- Two or more keys held down or sticking in the control panel
- Worn or swollen key membrane on an older panel
- Moisture or residue around the keys
- A control reading that clears when power is cycled
1. Press each key one at a time to release any that are stuck, or press Cancel. 2. If the light keeps flashing, cycle the power: unplug the dishwasher for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. 3. For a hard-wired unit, turn off its breaker for the same 30 seconds, then on. 4. Wipe the panel with a barely damp cloth and try again.
- A key that stays stuck after you press it points to the panel itself
- An older membrane may need replacing, and we cannot judge that from a blinking light
- We tell you plainly if a panel repair is not worth it on your machine, and quote in writing first
Other Dishwasher codes
Why is the Rinse Only light blinking fast?
It flashes quickly when the control senses several keys pressed at the same time. Pressing each key singly, or Cancel, often frees the stuck one.
Is my older portable dishwasher worth repairing?
Often it is, if the problem is only a panel. We say plainly when a repair is not worth it, and the written price comes before any work.
What if nothing releases the keys?
Then the panel itself may be worn or damp inside. We inspect the control and keys, and tell you whether a repair makes sense for the age of the machine.
Still unsure about Rinse Only Light?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
