What F9E2 means

F9E2 is a drain motor error on Whirlpool built-in dishwashers, the family that includes the WDF330PAHB. The motor that pumps used water out is not responding as the control expects, so the dishwasher cannot empty the tub. You will see the code, water may stay in the bottom after the cycle, and the dishwasher may stop. On a new install, a missing disposer knockout plug or a badly routed drain hose can look very similar.

Common causes of F9E2

  • Drain motor and its connection
  • Drain hose routing, kinks, or clogs
  • Disposer knockout plug left in on a new installation
  • Control drive signal to the drain motor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. On a new installation, make sure the garbage disposer knockout plug was removed. 2. Check the disposer and drain for clogs. 3. Straighten the drain hose if it is kinked, since a kinked or clogged hose causes poor drainage or none at all. 4. Verify the drain hose is routed correctly, on the right side and inside the frame. 5. Cycle the power. If F9E2 returns, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • The hose and plug are easy to check, but the drain motor and its drive are not visible from outside
  • A partly clogged drain can strain the motor and mimic a failure
  • We test the pump circuit and trace the drain path, and give a written price before work
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F9E2F9E2 questions
Is F9E2 always a bad drain motor?

No. A kink, a clog, or an unremoved disposer plug can raise it as well. We check the drain path first so you only pay for a motor if the motor is the problem.

The tub is full of water. What now?

Do not force another cycle. Check the hose and disposer, cycle the power, and if the water stays, call us. Keep the dishwasher off until the water is cleared.

Do you handle new-install drain problems?

Yes. If the hose routing or disposer plug is the cause, we correct it, confirm the dishwasher drains, and tell you the written price before starting.
