What F36, F37 means

F36, F37 appears together on Whirlpool electric radiant (smoothtop) cooktops such as the WCE97US0KS, and the guidance says there may be a problem with a temperature sensor on an induction coil. That sensor reports how hot the coil is so the control can regulate it. A power reset is the first step. If the codes come back, we test the sensor and the wiring that carries its signal.

Common causes of F36, F37

  • Temperature sensor on the coil reading incorrectly
  • Wiring or connector between the sensor and the control
  • Temporary glitch cleared by cycling power
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all surface controls off and let the cooktop cool. 2. Cut the cooktop's power at the breaker for a full minute. 3. Switch it back on. 4. Check whether either code returns in the next minute. 5. If either code returns, stop using the cooktop.

! Why to stop there
  • When F36 or F37 return, we test the sensor and its wiring before replacing anything.
  • We check whether the codes show on all burners or only one.
  • We state the price in writing first, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F36, F37F36, F37 questions
Why are F36 and F37 listed together?

They share the same published guidance, a possible temperature sensor problem on a coil, so we handle them as one family. One reset and one test cover both.

What does the sensor do?

It tells the control how hot the coil is. If it reads wrongly, the cooktop cannot regulate heat properly and may shut down to be safe.

Will a reset help?

It may clear a passing glitch. If the codes return, the sensor or its wiring needs a technician to test it. We test it before any part is ordered.
