What C means

On Whirlpool vent hoods, a C in the display while the fan runs is a reminder, not an error. After 120 hours of fan operation the hood shows C to say the charcoal filters are saturated and should be washed. It does not mean the motor or control has a problem. Hoods that vent outdoors, with no charcoal filter fitted, can have this reminder turned off.

  • Charcoal filter reached its 120-hour reminder
  • Reminder left active on a hood that vents outside

1. Remove the charcoal filter and wash it in the dishwasher with normal detergent at the highest temperature. 2. Dry it in an oven for 10 minutes at no more than 210Р’В°F (100Р’В°C) to reactivate it. 3. Refit the filter. 4. Press and hold FAN for 3 seconds to clear the C. 5. For a hood without a charcoal filter, hold + and - together for 3 seconds.

How do I clear the C on my vent hood?

Press and hold the FAN button for 3 seconds. The C goes out and the hour count starts again. Wash the charcoal filter first so the reset is honest.

My hood vents outside. Why does it show C?

The reminder is still active even though no charcoal filter is fitted. Hold + and - together for 3 seconds. An F then shows for 3 seconds and the alarm is disabled.

Can an older hood still show these reminders?

Yes. Older hoods in many homes have them too. If the reminder keeps coming back at once, we check the control and say plainly whether a repair is worth it.
