What F02 means

When a Whirlpool built-in microwave or microwave drawer, for example model WMC50522AS, shows F02, the control is reporting a problem that may be in the oven temperature sensor, the control, or the wiring that joins them. This is an older-generation display code, and the same guidance applies to F01. Owners find the oven will not heat or the cycle ends and F02 stays in the display until power is reset.

Common causes of F02

  • Oven temperature sensor
  • Electronic control
  • Wiring or connector in the sensor circuit
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch off the breaker feeding the microwave and wait a full minute. 2. Switch the breaker on again. 3. Stay near the oven for one minute and see whether F02 returns. 4. If the display is clear, run a short cycle to verify operation. 5. If F02 returns, avoid restarting it repeatedly.

! Why to stop there
  • After the reset we still need to know whether the sensor reads correctly, so we test its circuit.
  • The control board is checked last, so you are not asked to pay for a board that is working.
  • You see the written price before any part is ordered.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F02F02 questions
Why does my microwave show F02 instead of F01?

Both are older-style codes with the same guidance for the oven temperature sensor circuit. The different number does not point to a different part, as far as the manufacturer states.

Will a power reset keep F02 away?

It can clear a one-time glitch. If F02 comes back, the circuit still has a problem and we need to test the sensor, control and wiring.

How do I know if repairing it is worth it?

We tell you after the diagnosis. We give a written price, explain the cause, and say plainly if a newer unit would be the better choice.
