What U-u means

U-u on a Whirlpool induction cooktop means the cooktop does not detect a suitable pan on the cooking zone you selected. The pot may not be made for induction, may be placed wrongly, or may be the wrong size for that zone. If no pot is detected within 30 seconds of making the selection, the cooking zone switches off. It is a pan issue far more often than a repair.

Common causes of U-u

  • A pot or pan that is not suitable for induction
  • A pan that is off center on the zone
  • A pan too small for the selected cooking zone

1. Check that the pan is made for induction; a magnet should stick to its base. 2. Center the pan on the cooking zone you selected. 3. Use a pan wide enough for that zone. 4. Select the zone again within the 30-second window. 5. Try a different pan to rule out the first one.

What does U-u mean on my induction cooktop?

It means no suitable pan was detected. The pot may be non-induction, off center or the wrong size. After 30 seconds without a pan, the zone shuts off.

My pan is stainless steel. Why U-u?

Not all stainless steel is magnetic. Check with a magnet; if it does not stick firmly, the pan will not work on induction.

Can U-u come from the zone itself?

If a good pan, centered and of the right size, still gets U-u, the detection may need testing. We check it and give you a written price.
