What F1-C means

On older Whirlpool freestanding and slide-in ranges, including those of the WFG515S0ES family, the display may read F1-C. These ranges are still in many homes, and we repair them. The published response is a one-minute power reset. The areas named are the oven door latch, the door lock switch and the wiring, so the code is about the way the door lock reports its position to the control. Cleaning or baking may not start while the code is present.

Common causes of F1-C

  • Oven door latch mechanism
  • Door lock switch contacts
  • Wiring in the door lock circuit
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the door shuts squarely and nothing is wedged in it. 2. Switch the range's breaker off and wait a minute. 3. Switch the breaker on. 4. Keep watching the display for one minute. 5. Test with a short bake.

! Why to stop there
  • Older latches wear with years of heat cycles, and the display cannot show us which part is tired
  • We check the latch movement, the switch and the wiring before quoting
  • If the age of the range makes repair a poor choice, we say so before you pay for work
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F1-CF1-C questions
Why would an older range show a door lock code?

The latch and its switch go through many heating cycles over the years, so wear is common. The code tells us the lock is not reporting properly, not which part is worn.

What if the door will not open?

Do not force it. Turn the range off at the breaker, let the oven cool, and call us. We will free the door and test the lock safely.

How is this different from F1-A?

The guidance gives both the same parts and the same reset, so the difference is not explained. We examine your range directly to learn what it is reacting to.
