What F1-3 means

Older generation Whirlpool freestanding and slide-in ranges, such as members of the WFE525S0HS line, print F1-3 on the display. The published remedy is to turn power off and on for a minute. The oven temperature sensor, the control and the connecting wiring are listed as the areas that may need attention. These are ovens many Houston homes still use, and we repair them. The code stays shown, and the oven may bake poorly or not at all.

Common causes of F1-3

  • Sensor reading inside the oven
  • Loose wiring on the sensor or control
  • Control interpreting the reading
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the oven is off and cooled. 2. Cut power at the range's breaker for one minute. 3. Restore power. 4. Check the display for one minute for F1-3. 5. Try a short bake to confirm normal operation.

! Why to stop there
  • F1-3 returning means the reset did not remove the cause
  • A technician has to test the sensor circuit, which cannot be done safely from the front of the range
  • We explain the result and the price before any repair, and the work is covered by our workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F1-3F1-3 questions
Do F1-1, F1-2 and F1-3 mean the same thing?

The guidance names the same areas and the same reset for all three, so we cannot say how they differ. We read the oven on site.

Will the oven be unsafe to use?

The code is a control warning, not a gas warning. But an oven that misreads its temperature may overheat or underheat, so we suggest not using it until checked.

Where do you work on these older models?

We serve Houston and its surrounding areas. Call or book and we schedule a visit, then give you a written price after the diagnosis, before any repair work begins.
