What H2OLight means
H2OLight is the water filter status indicator on Whirlpool refrigerators, and it is not an error. On French-door bottom-freezer models such as the WRF535SMHZ, side-by-side models with an in-door dispenser such as the WRS325SDHZ, and bottom-freezer models such as the WRB322DMBM, the light tells you it is time to change the filter, about every six months or sooner with heavy use, and on side-by-sides when the light turns red or flow and ice drop. The light does not reset itself after a new filter goes in.
Common causes of H2OLight
- Filter not yet replaced, so the light is doing its job
- New filter installed but the status never reset
- Clogged or poorly seated filter cutting water flow and ice
- Reset method for a different model type used by mistake
1. Install the new filter and make sure it is seated fully. 2. On a bottom-freezer, hold Freezer and Drawer for three seconds. 3. On a side-by-side, hold Light and Ice Type for three seconds. 4. On a French-door, hold Max Cool and Max Ice together for three seconds, or hold Filter Reset. 5. Check that the light goes out.
- Button combinations vary by model, so if yours does not respond the owner's manual or a visit settles which one applies
- If water flow stays weak or ice stays small with a new filter, the problem is elsewhere in the water path and we test it
- Our written price comes first and our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty

Why is the light still on after I changed the filter?
The status does not reset on its own. You have to hold the right buttons for your model, which are not the same on every refrigerator. Check the steps above for your style, or your owner's manual.
How often should I change the filter?
About every six months, when the light comes on, or sooner if you use a lot of water or ice. A clogged filter lowers water flow and can shrink ice cubes.
What if the water flow is still weak?
Then the filter may not be the cause. Weak flow with a fresh, properly seated filter points to the supply or dispenser path, which we test on site and quote in writing.
