GI1500XHW

Whirlpool GI1500XHW Undercounter Ice Maker Repair

Most common issues on this model

  1. Water inlet valve that no longer fills the tray
  2. Ice cubes smaller than normal or hollow
  3. Bin that stays warm and melts what it holds
  4. Drain line that backs up and leaves water in the cabinet

The GI1500XHW is a Whirlpool 15-inch undercounter ice maker from the GI1500 family. It makes cube ice into a storage bin, and its front-vented design lets it sit between cabinets. A letter or digit can follow the number on some units, so we read the full number off the model and serial label before ordering.

In Houston these machines are common in kitchen bars, outdoor kitchens and game rooms. Hard water and a warm room are the usual enemies. When ice is poor or has stopped, we begin with the water supply and the inlet valve, then the drain, and then the cooling side: condenser airflow behind the front grille, the fan and the ice-making cycle.

We tell you plainly if a machine of this age is not worth the repair. You get a written price before we start, and the work has a 30-day warranty.

GI1500XHWGI1500XHW questions
My ice maker makes ice, but the cubes are small. Why?

Small or hollow cubes usually mean low water flow or a scaled water line. We check the inlet valve screen, the supply pressure and the tray, then clean the system if scale is the cause.

Does a front-vented machine need clearance?

It needs open airflow at the front grille. A dusty grille or a blocked toe space makes the condenser run hot, and ice production drops. We clean it and check the fan during a visit.

There is water in the cabinet under the bin. What do you check?

We trace it from the drain line first, then the inlet fitting and the bin. A clogged drain or a loose connector are common sources, and each is quoted in writing before we fix it.
