What Filter Light Blinking means
On Whirlpool ice makers, the Replace Filter light comes on after about 9 months or 2000 gallons of water use, whichever the unit reaches first. Homes with very hard water may need a new filter sooner. The light also keeps flashing when the filter is not installed correctly, for example when it has not been turned all the way into the locked position. Falling ice production is another sign the filter is due for replacement.
Common causes of Filter Light Blinking
- Filter has reached about 9 months or 2000 gallons of use
- Filter not turned fully into the locked position
- Hard water clogging the filter early and slowing ice production
- Filter replaced but the light not yet cleared
1. Replace the water filter if it has been in place about 9 months or ice production has slowed. 2. When you install the new one, turn it until it sits in the locked position. 3. If you just changed it, remove it and seat it again to confirm it is locked. 4. Check your owner guide for how the Replace Filter light is cleared after a change.
