What tS means
The tS code on Whirlpool WED / WGD electric and gas dryers, Cabrio and Duet included, shows a problem with the thermistor, meaning the temperature sensor is not reading correctly. On a vented, non-heat-pump model, the likely cause is a clogged lint screen or a blocked or restricted vent going outside the home. Airflow affects what the sensor reads. You may notice long dry times, a dryer that stops early, or damp clothes after a full cycle.
Common causes of tS
- Lint screen and vent run blocked or restricted
- Outside exhaust hood clogged
- Thermistor reading and its connector
- Wiring between the sensor and the control
1. Clean the lint screen. 2. Check the vent from the dryer to the wall for crushes, kinks and lint. 3. Verify the outside vent and exhaust are clean, as ample air flow is needed for proper dry time. 4. Run a timed dry cycle. 5. If tS returns, schedule service.
- An airflow problem and a sensor that reads wrong look alike on the display
- We measure the thermistor and check the vent run
- The price is in writing first, and an older dryer gets an honest repair-value comment
Other Dryer codes
What is the thermistor on my dryer?
It is a temperature sensor the control reads to manage heat. The tS code means those temperatures are not reading correctly, so the dryer may stop or dry poorly.
Can a dirty vent cause tS?
It can. Restricted exhaust changes the temperatures the sensor sees, so clearing the lint screen, vent and outside hood is the first thing to do. If tS stays, the sensor circuit needs a test.
Is tS the same as hE?
They are cousins. hE describes a heating error with temperatures too low or too high, and tS points to the thermistor reading. The vent checks overlap, and the technician tests differ.
Still seeing tS?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
